A Walk Through Palermo: Memory on the Walls and Nature at Lago de Regatas

Urban hiking not only invites us to move our bodies, but also to rediscover the city with a more attentive eye. I'm sharing this low-intensity city-trekking circuit (LISS) that combines historical memory, urban art, and nature in the heart of Palermo.

Paseo Malvinas: Art and History at the Patricios Regiment

During the walk, we move along Luis María Campos Ave., skirting the perimeter wall of Infantry Regiment 1 "Patricios". Since 2025, this wall has been transformed into a valuable tribute to the veterans and fallen soldiers of the Malvinas War through a series of murals.
The first five works stand out for their relief technique, while the project continues to develop: along the final stretch of the route, you can observe the sketches and first outlines of upcoming murals.

This perimeter wall takes on a special significance by remembering the unit's participation in the South Atlantic conflict:

•    Tactical Deployment: According to the Rattenbach Report (Volume II, Annex 12), Company B of Infantry Regiment 1 "Patricios" was attached to Infantry Regiment 25, occupying defensive positions at the Darwin Isthmus and reinforcing the perimeter of Puerto Argentino (Port Stanley).
•    Defensive Role: Isidoro J. Ruiz Moreno (La Guerra de las Malvinas, 1986) notes that on April 13, the transfer of Company "B" to the islands was ordered, where they performed security, patrolling, and position-integration tasks under severe weather conditions and naval artillery siege.
•    Combat Discipline: Rear Admiral Horacio A. Mayorga (No Vencidos, 1998) highlights that the troops maintained their assigned sectors along the coastal area and the airport under constant enemy fire, preserving tactical discipline until the ceasefire.

Green Stretch and Return

After leaving the Paseo Malvinas behind, the walk continues toward Lago de Regatas to complete a full loop around the water, enjoying the natural environment before starting the return to Plaza Italia, where the itinerary ends.
