European Union BsAs Run (Gold Edition) – 7K – Palermo (CABA) | 05-11-2026

I recently participated in the European Union BsAs Run, lining up for the competitive 7K category. The event offered something for everyone, featuring two other distances: a competitive 15K and a 3K participatory walk/run. It was a chilly morning, so I opted for a thermal base layer underneath the official race t-shirt, paired with shorts and my favorite lightweight, snug woolen beanie.

I started near the back of the pack, and the race kicked off right on time at 8:00 AM. There was a massive crowd of runners, though finding an exact official figure for just the racers (like total registrations or finishers) is tricky since sources vary. However, the organizers and several media outlets consistently mentioned "over 12,000 runners & companions" for this historic 10th edition. As for the actual participants out on the course across all three distances, one source noted more than 5,000 runners.

During this race, something happened to me that had never occurred in any previous 5K, 7K, or longer event. Unlike in the summer, I’ve developed a habit of not carrying extra hydration (like a soft flask) during the colder months. At kilometer 4, I passed a hydration station and was handed a water bottle. Since I didn't feel thirsty, I just tucked it into my backpack and finished the race without drinking a single drop.

⚠️ Note: I don't actually recommend doing this! It just happened to me this time, perhaps due to the cold weather or because I was already well-hydrated beforehand. I honestly don't know why, but I felt no need for water until after crossing the finish line, where I properly rehydrated.

Compared to last year, I improved all my stats. While it wasn't an extraordinary leap, it showed steady, solid progress. I managed to shave 1 minute off my net time, and my overall position this year was 372nd (compared to 510th in 2025). The rest of my data followed a similar positive trend.

General Analysis
Overall, it was a very well-executed race with metrics reflecting both high cardiovascular demand and great technical efficiency.

•    Terrain: Flat and firm ground—ideal for maintaining a steady pace.
•    Temperature: 8°C. These are optimal conditions for aerobic performance, as the body dissipates heat much better, ultimately improving cardiovascular efficiency.

Heart Rate
•    Minimum: 100 bpm
•    Maximum: 178 bpm
•    Average: 152 bpm
High-intensity and strenuous anaerobic work predominated, indicating a high-intensity endurance session—perfect for improving power and cardiovascular capacity. The heart rate curve remained stable without abrupt spikes, which is a great sign of effort control.

Pace & Speed
The consistency of my pace throughout the event suggests an efficient stride and excellent adaptation to the terrain.

Cadence & Steps

•    Average: 164 steps/min
•    Maximum: 169 steps/min
This range is optimal for a long-distance runner to prevent joint overload and maintain fluidity. The steady cadence reflects economy of movement and solid running technique.
Weather Impact
At 8°C, the body works within its ideal thermal zone:
•    Less thermal stress → better oxygenation.
•    Higher cardiac efficiency → more stable heart rate.
•    A potential slight improvement in average pace compared to warmer days.

Technical Conclusion
This race successfully combined a high cardiovascular load (dominant anaerobic zone), a stable pace, an efficient cadence, and ideal thermal conditions for peak performance.

A Quick Clarification: 5 Years or 10 Years?
Last year, I ran what was billed as the 4th edition of this race, so naturally, I expected this year to be the 5th. In fact, the official European Union website (1) states exactly that: "The 5th edition of the European Union Buenos Aires Run 2026 is here."
However, the event's official website (2) highlights the "Gold Edition" and "First 10 Years," even though their photo albums only show pictures from 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 (meaning 4 previous editions). Meanwhile, other media outlets claimed the race "celebrated its 10th anniversary."

So, which is it?
An AI actually helped me clear this up! This type of confusion is quite common in races that undergo rebranding or add a major institutional sponsor. The explanation lies in the history of the production company (ILoverunn) and how the event evolved:

1. The "10" comes from the original brand (BsAs Run)
The "Buenos Aires Run" was born 10 years ago as an independent event by ILoverunn. If you count all the editions under that generic name, this 2026 event marks the tenth edition (including the years before the pandemic). That’s why you'll see the website mention: "9 years of BsAs Run | 4 years of European Union BsAs Run."

2. The "5" comes from the partnership with the European Union
Since 2022, the race was relaunched with strong institutional support and officially renamed the "European Union Buenos Aires Run." Each year features a unique theme:

•    2022 (1st EU Edition): "For Peace" Medal
•    2023 (2nd EU Edition): "For the Planet" Medal
•    2024 (3rd EU Edition): "Road to Paris 2024" Medal
•    2025 (4th EU Edition): "United in every step. Supportive in every goal" (Benefiting the Techo Foundation)
•    2026 (5th EU Edition): "Running together, everyone wins" (Benefiting the Pupi Foundation)
Summary: Last year was considered the 4th edition because they were referring strictly to the current era under EU sponsorship (which started in 2022). For 2026, the organizers decided to merge these milestones and celebrate the "Gold Edition," honoring the overall 10-year longevity of the "BsAs Run" name. It's a clever marketing strategy to add prestige to the event and justify a special "Gold" medal design!
